biography

YOUTH

Jimbei was born by an unknown mother and father and was raised in an orphanage on Fishman Island. From there, he was trained under a master in the art of fishman karate, receiving a black belt before he turned into a teenager. As he grew older, he joined the Neptune Army of Fishman Island. However, it wasn’t until Fisher Tiger’s attack on the Mary Geoise that he leaves to join the Sun Pirates.

sUN pIRATES

As part of the Sun Pirates, Jimbei earned a branded Sun on his chest to join his fellow members in the life of piracy. Living out at sea, they would find justice of their own, with one rule to never kill, as a sense to not stoop to their level. During this time, they had come across a young former slave named Koala, where they were willing to take her real home. It was during their time with her that they helped her break out of such a robotic mindset. Once Koala was returned home, they were attacked by the Marines contacted by the villagers. Due to this, Fisher Tiger suffered fatal injuries, ending the captain’s life. Jinbe soon took over the role of captain of the Sun Pirates and continued living out Fisher Tiger’s legacy and final wishes.

WARLORD OF THE SEA

Upon gaining a reputation as the new leader of the Sun Pirates, he was soon given an invitation from the World Government to accept the new title of one of the Warlords of the Sea. In exchange for temporary pardons on past crimes, they would serve as allies to the Government and help upkeep balance in the world. During this time, Jimbei made great strides in establishing better communications between the World Government and Fishman Island, with the hope of having a stronger bond between species.
In exchange for his acceptance into the Warlord position, the incarcerated Arlong was set free. However, due to conflicting perspectives, Arlong would reform the Arlong Pirates instead of rejoining the Sun Pirates. Despite Jimbei's protests, it had led to a brutal fight between the two, with Jimbei as the winner. However, he could not finish him off, due to the history between the two and how deep their bond once was. Jimbei allowed Arlong to live as the sawshark went off to the East Blue.Jimbei was present at the Queen's return from the surface, who made the announcement of having the World Noble's support in their goals. While continuing to gain the favor of the entire island, the Queen was assassinated (believed to be done by a human, but later revealed to be killed by Hody Jones, the fishman that announced that a human killed her in the first place).

TWO YEARS LATER

After meeting with and assisting the Straw Hat Pirates in defeating Hody Jones, Jimbei was not able to join the crew officially until he cut ties with the Big Mom Pirates and receive permission from his own Sun Pirates Crew. Letting the Strawhat Pirates depart from Fishman Island, they inevitably reunite again on Whole Cake Island. Assisting the Sanji Rescue Team in saving Sanji from an unwanted, arranged marriage, he also makes his claim that he wishes to leave the Big Mom Pirates and no longer be affiliated with them. Handing back the sake cup meant to symbolize the bond, he makes a quick escape with the others out to sea.To let the Strawhats get away, Jimbei decided to have one last battle as the Sun Pirate Captain, fighting with his crew and drawing away Big Mom's forces from Luffy & the others. That day, he made a promise that he would return to Luffy alive, and that he will join them officially as the helmsman to their crew.On the day of the Onigashima raid, Jimbei manages to travel all the way to Wano to join the Strawhat Crew. After a formal announcement of his recruitment, they briefly celebrate the occasion before continuing onward to Onigashima. He joins the fight to take down two of the Emperors of the Sea once and for all.

1478-1508

  • Quickly Masters the Art of Fishman Karate at a young age.

  • Befriends Arlong, Hachi, Chew, & Kuroobi as children. Recognizes Fisher Tiger as a big brother figure.

  • Begins his life as a kingdom soldier, soon rising in ranks to become leader of his own division within the Royal Guards.

1509-1513

  • 1509 - Jimbei leaves the royal guard to join the Sun Pirates under Fisher Tiger's leadership.

  • 1512 - Encounters Koala and is asked to take her home. Once reaching to her island, the people of the island attack Fisher Tiger. Jimbei is forced to watch the death of his captain as he refused blood transfusion to live because it was human blood. Arlong is arrested in attempt to retaliate against the death of Fisher Tiger.

  • 1513 - Becomes the new captain of the Sun Pirates. World Government sends an invitation for the Warlord Program.

1514-1520

  • 1514 - Witnessed the death of Queen Otohime. Discovered Hody Jones, who stated that it was a human pirate that killed her. He asked to hide the information but was ignored. Caused further tension between humans and fishmen.

  • At some point between, Whitebeard claims Fishman Island to be under his protection.

  • 1520 - Encounters Ace & is locked into a 5-day duel. The fight ends in a draw. Becomes Friends with Ace.

1522

  • February - Jimbei visits the Whitebeard Pirates and Ace informs Jimbei of the defeat of Arlong thanks to his little brother, Luffy.

  • April - Is sent to Impel Down due to his refusal to stand on the Marine side against Whitebeard in the upcoming war. Is placed in a cell with Ace until Ace was sent to Marineford. Was freed by Luffy once he had reached to the bottom of the prison. Actively participates in the breakout of Impel Down and war at Marineford. Witnessed the death of Ace & Whitebeard, escaped thanks to Buggy's transport and Law's participation. Suffers a near death injury by Akainu. Recovers and helps Luffy come to his senses after the young captain regains consciousness.

  • April-May - Travels with Luffy & Rayleigh to get a message delivered to the other strawhats.

1523-1524

  • Falls into an affiliation with Big Mom in order to protect Fishman Island from other pirates. Jimbei discusses with the crew over who would marry to seal the pact between pirate crews. Aladine volunteered to seal the deal.

  • Awaits for Luffy & his crew outside of Fishman Island.
